Anxiety counselling is about addressing nervousness, worry, fears, apprehensions, doubts, and uncertainties resulting from a specific situation or situations. Anxiety can occur prior to an event happening or can present itself when we are not expecting it. When our reaction to that situation is seen or felt to be out of proportion with the situation presented, anxiety counselling can help.
It is not uncommon for people to experience anxiety when confronting challenging situations such as new experiences, public speaking, examinations, interviews or consultations where personal integrity or loss of face are at stake, financial loss, or facing material loss or gain. Anxiety can effect our ability to communicate clearly with others either visually (through our body language), verbally (by the way we talk – nervously, stuttering, choice of words) or in the written sense (not being able to clearly express ourselves, messy writing or poor written presentation). It can lead to anger, affect our self-esteem, our relationship with others and our work performance.
